February has always been this writer’s favorite month! The possibility of snow,
celebrations for the birthdays of Presidents Washington and Lincoln, children
making or giving valentines, candy, longer days of light/shorter month, the Ground
Hog seeing his shadow, and anticipation of Spring coming our way.
To all of you, Welcome!! Our next meeting will be Monday, February 2nd at 10am
in the Poulsbo Community Room. The program will feature speaker Richard Padro,
Producer and Artistic Director of Admiral Theater in Bremerton speaking of updates to downtown Bremerton activities and an exciting future for the Admiral
Theater!

We have 2 more new members: Frances Pilato and Joyce Brockman. We are glad
you are with us and we hope you enjoy our time together!!
The January meeting gave us such an engaging hour spent with Kate Mackay of
the SEA Discovery Center in Poulsbo. Hearing about young giant Pacific octopus,
Klahanie, was a fascinating look into the seas that surround us. The SEA Discovery
Center is always interested in having more volunteers. If you might be interested,
contact them at (360) 650-4905, They are open Friday and Saturday 11am-4pm or
SEA@wwu.edu
The next Book Sale will be held in the Community Room on March 14,
10:00am to 2pm. Set up is on Friday, March 13, 9:00am to noon and Saturday
hours are from 9:00am to 3:00pm, which will include book sales and clean-up and
packing away books. We would love to have your help and the sharing of food for
lunch on Saturday. We will have sign-up sheets at the February 2nd and March 2nd
meetings for both volunteering and for tasty food donations. Thank you again for
helping with our January sale. We profited from our efforts; $3,066.25. We have
such amazing volunteers as well as patrons. Sign up at a Meeting or call Carol (360
265-8132) or Karen (360 598-1922)
We will NOT be collecting any more bottle caps. The program has been
discontinued.
If you have a leftover calendar or 2, any year that has no writing on it, our Friend
Jean Haller will be able to turn its pages into lovely book marks with the dates for
our book sales attached. She thanks you very much and so do we!! Bring it along
to the meeting!
Donations to our monthly meetings in the form of refreshments are always
welcome. Contact Sandy Bullock for information (360-394-5635)

BOARD OF DIRECTORS NEWS
The Directors unanimously approved additional funding for the remaining balance
of the meeting room project in the amount of $3,087. We received a funding
request for several items, including the meeting room project, a SafeSitter and CPR
Certification program, a Spring Break activity, and the Partnership with Poulsbo Parks
and Rec for the Poetry Walk at Fish Park. There was discussion of how to make the
meeting rooms accessible to the hearing and vision impaired. Pam Crowe will do
more research to that end.
George Daniels of the Poulsbo Senior Center gave a presentation to Directors as to
how a PFOL website could be developed including calendars, book sale
information, newsletters and a specific button for donations. There would be
internet access from anywhere for anyone.
